Soccer enthusiasts in the country have welcome back Standard Bank with its Unayo National Division One football League sponsorship totalling MK46 million.
Standard Bank of Malawi has pumped in the money meant for the three regions; Central, Southern and Northern Region Divsion One Football Leagues which will be sponsored at K15 million per annum.
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President, Walter Nyamilandu described the gesture as timely saying it will help unearthing talent building capacity from lower leagues in which have challenges in getting sponsorship
“The net has been cast wide to unlock rural talent through a bottom-up development agenda. The spin-offs of this fan based customer centric sponsorship are huge for Malawi football numbers don't lie as we continue Raising The Bar,” Nyamilandu said.
Head of Consumer and High Net Worth Clients at Standard Bank Charity Mughogho says, the deal comes as UNAYO platform is set to reach 100,000 wallets milestone for financial inclusion hence the Sponsorship.
“This gives a platform for engaging further with their clients spanning across the country as majority of gives are passionate about and support local football Some years after leaving football Sponsorship in the country,” Mughogho said.
She further stated that the Bank has returned in the football industry but this time around with UNAYO National Regional Division one leagues.
For one region a total of 64 teams are expected to participate with 700 games estimated to be played within the eight months time frame set
The unveiling ceremony took place at Standard Bank Headquarters in City Center in the Capital, Lilongwe
